I’m only 24 but I am learning that self-love is oh so important.
When you have no one else, all you have is yourself.
You matter.
You are important and don’t let anyone else tell you any different.
There are people in this world who never want to see you happy, your misery fuels their happiness. Life is way too short to give these people what they need to feed off your unhappiness. All I can advise you to do is DO YOU. It is much easier said than done, but once you get into this mind-frame of thinking, it is absolute bliss. I’ve realised that as I get older, the importance of staying in your own lane and not giving a f*ck is imperative.
Life is short and who has time to be so negative? It took me probably maybe 5 or 6 years to get into this way of thinking, but I am much happier now. Having a close circle of friends who keep you grounded really helps. I’d gone through that phase of trying to impress the wrong crowd by conforming to their ideals. Deep down I knew I wasn’t being ‘me’ – the perils of being a teenager eh?
Anyway, now I can proudly say, every decision I make is for myself. If I want to get weave because it makes me feel like Beyoncé, then that is my choice. If I want to turn my phone off and just be on my own, then that is my choice too. What I’m getting is that society (ironically, we are society) focuses too much on looking or being good for others. Just be good for you and do what makes you happy.
If you need someone to love you because you cannot love yourself, it is never going to work.
