Whilst perks from blogging and being a blogger appear free, hard work goes into it. From writing, scheduling and planning content, photography and videography, it’s not an easy job, but it’s not hard either. I’m not going to compare this profession to that of a doctor or engineer but blogging, vlogging and the entire realm of content creation requires you to wear many different hats. Here are a few ways you can get these opportunities too (check out my 2017 in blogging post for a little more insight)…
Who doesn’t love free stuff right?
Networking
Again, networking events may be free but they come at the cost of your time and maintaining and cultivating those relationships. You have to put the time in to reap the benefits!
Events
Blogger events offer you the opportunity to directly connect with brands e.g Scarlett London’s event, searching through Eventbrite or being on the PR’s mailing list. You don’t particularly have to be invited as some may have free tickets. Ultimately its how you think it’d benefit you and your blog.
Social Media
Social media is a powerful tool and sometimes users forget the key aspect of being social and it becomes ‘me me me’. I can’t count how many times I’ve followed others only to be inundated with automated DMs telling me to follow them here, here, here and here. I’m pretty sure that’s why you have your link in your bio, non? When it comes to working with brands and reviewing products, the key is to grow an organic relationship with them without going down the spam route. Be genuine, use your creativity and think of ways you can work together that feel like a natural fit for both of you. Don’t be afraid to slide in the DMs either or find out the details of their press/PR team either. But also remember there others are doing the same, so don’t be afraid of rejection either. It’s all about knowing your brand as a blogger and knowing the brands you connect or can identity with.
