Please note, my evening was complimentary thanks to Jet2.
I have been waiting to visit Greece FOREVER. If it isn’t the blue roofs of Santorini calling me, it’s the ancient history embodied in Athens or a hidden desire to eat my bodyweight in Tzakiki. Greece really has it all.
NEVER APPOLO-GISE
I was invited to a cooking class with Jet2 Holidays to celebrate two new destinations they will be flying to in 2020 – Lefkas and the Parga area. Now if you know me well, I cannot cook to save my life; I walked in the kitchen at Jenius Social kitchen filled with dread and little apprehension slightly numbed by a glass of prosecco.
Get me to Greece…
OIL BE THERE FOR YOU
I was amongst 30 food, travel and lifestyle bloggers and our task for the evening was to cook our dinner, Greek style. Thankfully we had a chef and plenty of help on hand to guide us through the process. First up was the classic Greek Salad which required a great deal of slicing and dicing and a helpful glug of Greek extra virgin olive oil.
Next came the stuffed tomato and peppers which involved exactly what the name suggested – stuffing. This was followed by Spanakopitakia (Spinach Pie) & Tiropita (Cheese Pie) which also involved stuffing and folding. I’m beginning to sense a theme here.
Finally came the Tzatziki and Souvlaki which were relatively “easy” to prepare. Cooking isn’t that all bad if you have help!
THE NEW DESTINATIONS
Jet2 is much more well-known in the Midlands and North of England than London however that doesn’t mean they don’t have a presence here. Their London base is my local airport – Stansted, which I seem to fly from every month. I’m hoping my trips in 2020 will be with Jet2 *speaks it into existence*
Lefkas
“Think you know the Greek islands? Think again. This under-the-radar isle is ready to wow with its winning combo of postcard good looks and go-slow vibes. And dreamy doesn’t even begin to cover it. We’re talking barely-touched beaches, wild olive groves and sparkling blue-green waters as far as the eye can see. This is the real-deal Greece we all want to see.”

Parga
“A picturesque potion of French Riviera-esque harbour towns and Caribbean-style beaches… ta-dah, we bring you the Parga region! Stretching along mainland Greece’s western coast, south-east of Corfu, Parga’s unspoilt beauty knows no limits. Expect paradisiacal beaches, spellbinding surroundings and a heart-warming history rolled into one.”

Out of the two, I am drawn to Parga because it reminds me of the Almafi coast in Italy which I am still yet to visit. I could imagine coming here with some friends or a future bae in the next couple of years. A girl can dream…
I should also mention is these areas of Greece are very affordable with a 3 course meal starting at £21.70 and a pint of beer costing only £2.90.
And for those of you who prefer to book accommodation only, you can do so here.
ALL THINGS GREECIAN
After we’d made a mess of the Jenius Social, we were led into the dining room for a drink whilst our food cooked. I got chatting to a few other bloggers about my favourite subject – travel and before we knew it we were indulging in our hard work. Did it taste better because we had prepared it ourselves? Who knows but all I know is that my knowledge of Greece has increased.
We were challenged to a quiz after dinner with the prize being a trip to Greece…
I am sad to say I didn’t win but I did come second and won a hamper full of Greek ingredients. Maybe this is a sign to continue cooking?
Alpha and Omega
Sadly this blog post must come to an end and ironically I have never been to Greec, but that all changes this October as I’ll be making this dream of mine come true:
Stayed tuned for my Memoirs and Musings from Mykonos content.
Have you flown Jet2 before? Will you be visiting Greece in 2020?
