Musings: My Favourite Kanye West Songs

Right, Kanye West isn’t the most popular artist on the planet in terms of likeability but you cannot deny he is a talented rapper and record-producer…

I am a big fan of Kanye and whilst I don’t agree with some of his opinions, outbursts and what he’d call a visionary stream of consciousness; he wouldn’t be him without it. He even said:

Anyway, here are my Kanye BEST tracks:

Gold Digger

I LOVE this video – truly Hype Williams at his best. This song now reminds me of life before Instagram, who wants to be a gold digger now when you can advertise slimming teas instead?

Love Lockdown

The instrumentals on this track are what makes Kanye stand out as a producer for me. I think this came out in 2008 and if anything it seems more fitting to today’s music scene than back then. Is Kanye ahead of his time?

All Falls Down

How could I not include All Falls Down?  The line that gets me every time is:

She had hair so long that it looked like weave
Then she cut it all off now she look like Eve
And she be dealing with some issues that you can’t believe
Single black female addicted to retail and well
Oh when it all, it all falls down
I’m telling you oh, it all falls down

Wolves

Sia’s vocals, the lyrics, Kanye at his best, the production and this EPIC music video in collaboration with Balmain…

Power

Great song for walking into the gym and embodying the BEAST MODE mentality.

Monster

So, there is no music video for this, so instead I’ve included Adele’s version of Nicki’s verse instead. I absolutely LOVE this track as it pulls together some of today’s rap royalty – Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross. Who doesn’t love Kanye’s multifasceted line ‘My presence is a present / Kiss my ass’. Charming Mr. West as his best.

Hell of A Life

I think you guys should all listen to this one alone…

Blame Game

This song gets me right in the heart every time I listen to it. Makes you wonder who is to blame? You? Him? Her? We’ll never know…

But I love to play the blame game, I love you more
Let’s play the blame game for sure
Let’s call out names, names, I hate you, more
Let’s call out names, names, for sure

So that’s my Kanye roundup… let’s have a toast to the douchebags… and remember:
