A qualified nail tech might disagree with this post but with my generation becoming self-taught make up artists, photographers and just about everything else, you too can become a self-taught nail artist from home.
Contrary to popular belief, you never stop learning and we all start somewhere. Some of us may have a better eye for detail than others but all it takes it starting in the first place. Thankfully, we have YouTube which can teach you the basics of painting your nails at home.
Paint Your Nails Perfectly At Home:
Remember: It doesn’t get easier, you get better.
I spend approx £70 a month getting a shellac manicure and pedicure and of course, the lockdown has forced me to go down the DIY route. Last year, I was gifted Mylee’s gel nail range and it has saved me a few trips to the nail salon. I usually use it in those in-between weeks where my nails have grown out but payday isn’t in sight. The scary part about doing your nails at home is that you may never want to pay for the salon again.
I was sent the Bluesky summer collection from the team at Diva World and I was so impressed with the shade range. Not only do they look good on my skin-tone, they’re great quality too!
I tend to find pastel shades too cool-toned for me but these Bluesky shades have just the right undertones. Best of all, they are only £6.95, and all the shades from the collection compliment each other really well. This is the time to experiment with nail art, wearing a different shade on each nail or mixing them with nudes.
My favourite shade out of the collection is ‘Lolita’ which is the perfect salmon pink. I can’t wait to wear this somewhere far away because I am in need of a holiday.
My other favourite shades are ‘Water Games’ which is an ocean blue and ‘Peanut Ice Cream’, a pale green.

Your self-care may range from turning off the notifications on your phone to reading a good book, mine involves painting my nails. It’s not the vanity aspect, it’s something that makes me feel like me. It’s also taking that time out to do something for yourself with the distraction of social media.
How many times have you had your nails done in the salon and hated the colour when you got home? With your own gel nail kit and shades, if you’re not happy, you can simple take it off and start again.
Hopefully this post has inspired you to invest in DIY gel polishes! I prefer them to normal polishes because they last two to three weeks and they dry instantly (cured under a UV lamp).

Welcome to my little space on the internet, known as Memoirs and Musings. I’m Char, short for Charlotte and my blog/website/diary is dedicated to documenting my Memoirs and Musings, hence the name. I wouldn’t say I was your ‘typical’ blogger either. I don’t care about getting the perfect flatlay or feeling bad for not posting, I just enjoy writing. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading. Anyway, I love to travel, indulge in a glass of white wine, when plans are cancelled and purchase overpriced make up. I guess that’s me in a nutshell, trying to figure out this thing called life, have fun and never lose sight.
