Musings: 12 x Hotel Rituals And Where To Find Them

The best part of planning a trip is picking a hotel, am I right? Perhaps you may be more inclined to book a hostel or an airbnb but this post may influence you otherwise. Myself and Ade from MyBreakingViews.com have collaborated with some of your favourite travellers to ask them what their hotel preferences are. Are you bouji, basic or budget? Or perhaps a mix of all three.

Meg of Megfabulous.com

“I blog about solo travel, foodie adventures abroad and carnival.”

What is your favourite kinda hotel type? Budget, bouji, boutique?

Bouji and boutique, I’m not necessarily a fan of big chains but I value beautiful interiors and excellent service.

What is the first thing you do when you get to your hotel? e.g unpack, room tour, open the mini bar?

Check the bathroom, it has to clean and beautiful!

Are you loyal to any chains? e.g Hilton, Marriott…

Nope! I rarely opt for chains unless that particular location is highly recommended.

What is the best hotel you’ve stayed in and why?

Hmmm tough choice, but the Eastern & Oriental in Penang. The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms are beautiful and they have the lushest robes!

Do you have any websites you use to book your accommodations?

Booking.com, I love the no credit card required, free cancellation policy!

Elle of ellemacuk.com

What is your favourite kinda hotel type? Budget, bouji, boutique?

Hi I’m Elle, a travel and sex/relationships blogger. I love travel, wine and cheese. Some might call me classy.

Are you loyal to any chains? e.g Hilton, Marriott… Or do you like trying new places

I love to try new places and often even AirBnB’s.

What is the first thing you do when you get to your hotel? e.g unpack, room tour, open the mini bar?

I like to do a whole tour of the place with an in-depth check to see if the bathroom is clean enough to my standards. Nothing worse than a grimy bathroom!

What is the best hotel you’ve stayed in and why?

Axel Beach in Ibiza. It’s an apart-hotel so you have the freedom to cook as well as chill out in the living room. I love the fact it has a spa and a private entrance to the beach as Ibiza can be very intense, so it’s nice to have down time options at your fingertips.

Do you have any websites you use to book your accommodations?

I often use booking.com, lastminute.com or AirBnB.

For a city break, budget. For a relaxing holiday, bouji.

Are you loyal to any chains? e.g Hilton, Marriott… Or do you like trying new places

I can’t afford chains! Generally they’re way out of my budget. I can find more affordable, more personal hotels with the same standard through a lot of research.

What is the first thing you do when you get to your hotel? e.g unpack, room tour, open the mini bar?

Quick check of the room and unpack. I like to make myself at home as soon as possible!

What is the best hotel you’ve stayed in and why?

The Akyra on Koh Samui. Every detail was natural, authentic. From iced green tea when we arrived with our suitcases, to providing mosquito relief spray after I got covered. Friendly but not intrusive and the views were phenomenal.

The Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Or basically anywhere in Bali!

Room tour!

What is the best hotel you’ve stayed in and why?

It was this dope boutique hotel in Xi’an called the Xi’an Left Art Fashion Hotel. It was like walking through a museum of contemporary art. Each room was unique in decor and the hallways looked like runways. It was smack dab in the middle of the action in the city with the Muslim Quarter & the Bell Tower a few blocks away in total walking distance.

Room tour and jump on the bed, comfiness is everything.

I’m not loyal to any chains, like to try new places and mix it up if I can. If however, I’m travelling somewhere that’s mainly B&B’s, I’ll go with a 4-Star Hilton or Mercure.

What is the first thing you do when you get to your hotel? e.g unpack, room tour, open the mini bar?

The first thing I do when I get to my hotel room is check out the bathroom. It has to be clean, have a great shower or tub… and have decent toiletries.

What is the best hotel you’ve stayed in and why?

Sofitel Hotel and Spa- Marrakech. It’s the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. It smells of Neroli oil, the staff are really friendly and helpful and the rooms are luxurious. Their night-time dining options include sitting by an infinity pool by candlelight, it’s simply breathtaking. Their bespoke hotel branded Shisha-Pipes are amazing too!

A Little Bit About Me

Welcome to my little space on the internet, known as Memoirs and Musings. I’m Char, short for Charlotte and my blog/website/diary is dedicated to documenting my Memoirs and Musings, hence the name. I wouldn’t say I was your ‘typical’ blogger either. I don’t care about getting the perfect flatlay or feeling bad for not posting, I just enjoy writing. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading. Anyway, I love to travel, indulge in a glass of white wine, when plans are cancelled and purchase overpriced make up.  I guess that’s me in a nutshell, trying to figure out this thing called life, have fun and never lose sight.
