I may be publishing this post on 30th August 2019 but we cannot deny that the evenings are getting a little darker, the temperature has started to dip and the back to school mentality is coming back. This can only mean one thing – autumn is on its way. Change is in the air and you may wish to may some change at home starting with your room. I’ve come up with a couple of ideas for you to revamp your room this autumn.
Be the light you wish to see in the world
Candles are a cost-effective way to revamp a small room and bring life to a large room. They set a mood, make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside and best of all, they smell incredible. Your bedroom is your own personal habitat and you should choose scents that are calming and bring you to a sense of peace like lavender.
I particularly love scents like Egyptian cotton, fresh linen and anything with oud. Not only that, candles make a great gift for someone if you’re struggling of something to buy. They’re the gift that keeps on giving and even if its dark outside you can still get that spring feeling (or scent at least).
Who doesn’t love a plush thick rug? Rugs are an inexpensive way to make your room feel a little more ‘homely’ in autumn. You can layer them, get creative and make your own or even swap with friends.
However if you really want to revamp your room, some cheap carpet may be worth looking into. It can completely change the mood and bring life to your bedroom. Anything to make it feel warmer and inviting right? Think of sticking to jewel tones like burgundy, emerald and, aubergine for warmth and a pop of colour.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
Much like candles, lighting as a whole is key to changing the mood and dynamic in your room. Autumn means there will be a shortage on sunlight, but that doesn’t mean there needs to be a shortage of light in your room. Strategically placing lamps and uplighters can change your mood and ensure you have a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. If only you didn’t have to get up to switch them off though.
Upcycling
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, right? You may have seen that questionable sofa that’s been on the side of the road for a few days and thought “hmm it still has a little life”. And you are absolutely right, it probably does. Why not get some help, get creative and upcycle an old piece of furniture. Not only will it be a fun project but it’s good for the environment. However, make sure you have the right cleaning products on before attempting anything!
Self-Care Kit
These days self-care is a huge priority for me and those days where I don’t want to go out and face the world my room becomes my nest. It’s important for me to take time out for myself and just chill because life can’t be lived to the fullest every day. Having a self-care kit in my room full of things that make me happy will help me through those dark days this autumn. Consider things like:
- Sheet masks
- Colouring books
- Books in general!
- Essential oils
- …Booking a flight
These are just a few things that can help you stay ~zen~ too.
It’s time to pack away the sandals, bring out the boots along with chunky knits and blankets and get warmed up for autumn.
What ways would you revamp your room this autumn?
