Musings: The Importance of Wellness

Please note, this is a collaborative post with Bathrooms Directs Yorkshire.

wellness

/ˈwɛlnəs/

noun

the state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal.

“measures of a patient’s progress toward wellness”

Some may say wellness is drinking a green smoothie and going for a 5 mile run and others may see it as an expensive hobby. You know, booking yourself onto a retreat in the middle of nowhere, eating meticulously bland food with no communication with the outside world. Perhaps this is prison for some. However we cannot deny that wellness is a phrase thrown around these days amongst ‘self care’. Is it another excuse to make you purchase a face mask or is it a way to really make you look at your live and implement steps to live really well?

Looking good = Feeling good?

Some days all you need to do is sit in front of your vanity unit and apply your favourite skincare products in to feel good. I know I do. Positive self image is linked to mental wellbeing in some way but I am not an expert but there is truth in the phrase ‘feel good, look good’. There is also empowerment in the polar opposites – being barefaced to the world and a full face of make up. It really depends on your preference but either way, make up doesn’t hurt anyone and neither does a fresh faced beaut.

Consumption

When it comes to living well one of the main things in our loves we need to look at is what we consume. It’s not about throwing out all our junk food but looking at in terms of how it makes you feel, what it does for you. Can you implement the ‘everything in moderation’ approach or go with what the heart wants?

The same goes for social media. Tools are in place to to restrict our consumption. From the amount of time we spend looking at the screen to muting accounts that don’t make you feel good about yourself (or where you are in life). You are in control.

Living really well

“Self care and wellness isn’t just limited to a Sunday or when you have a day off. It can be part of your daily routine when you work full time or if you have a few hour spare. Switching off is important in this day and age. Whether you like it or not we’re glued to screens more than we’d like to admit. After a hard day a work, sometimes we take the stress to the gym with us, or home to our families, friends or flatmates.”

About Me

Welcome to my little space on the internet, known as Memoirs and Musings. I’m Char, short for Charlotte and my blog/website/diary is dedicated to documenting my Memoirs and Musings, hence the name. I wouldn’t say I was your ‘typical’ blogger either. I don’t care about getting the perfect flatlay or feeling bad for not posting, I just enjoy writing. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading. Anyway, I love to travel, indulge in a glass of white wine, when plans are cancelled and purchase overpriced make up.  I guess that’s me in a nutshell, trying to figure out this thing called life, have fun and never lose sight.
